The Consumer Electronics Show is an annual exhibition that looks at all the latest and greatest innovations in the world of technology, and this year FCA used that platform to debut the new fourth-generation version of its lauded UConnect infotainment system, which now will feature both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto.

For those that don’t know, these two services work in conjunction with UConnect to give drivers the best possible (and safest possible) smartphone functionality while behind the wheel of a new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep® or RAM Vehicle. Both send and receive phone calls and text messages, for example, while also providing access to their own brand of navigation maps, music services and even apps. Almost all of it is voice-activated, too (including the Apple Siri voice control features), which means less distracted driving and more eyes on the road. Without a doubt, this is the highest-functioning and easiest-to-use version of the infotainment system yet.

“The Uconnect team is evolving Uconnect and making it even better,” said Joni Christensen, Head of Uconnect Marketing, FCA US LLC. “With the launch of the fourth generation of Uconnect systems, we are continuing to minimize the everyday stresses of busy lifestyles by providing drivers with a variety of ways to stay conveniently connected to their vehicles, while making every drive exceptionally informative, entertaining and unique.”

Furthermore, the UConnect system itself has been improved, now with faster processing and boot-up times, capacitive touchscreens with heightened responsiveness and better screen resolution. Whether our customers are driving Chrysler sedans or 2016 RAM trucks doesn’t matter; these features are going to be made available in all FCA autos moving forward, and that’s a tremendous boon for those drivers accustomed to making the most of their infotainment systems.
