It’s always good news when a RAM truck wins an accolade, but usually the truck taking home the hardware is the 2015 RAM 1500, which over the course of the last several months has taken home an avalanche of awards. Of course, that isn’t the only truck in the RAM stable to have ever won an award, as the ultra-tough 2015 RAM Chassis Cab trucks recently proved by taking home the Work Truck magazine Medium-Duty Truck of the Year award.

There are a lot of things to love about the 2015 RAM 4500/5500 Chassis Cab trucks, but these fleet workhorses are so well suited for commercial use because they offer a rig rather than a traditional pickup bed to allow owners to hook up any back-end a job may require. A massive 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine is at the heart of all that power, and it can push out a respectable 320 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, all of which can combine to hook up a payload of over 8,700 pounds.

The winner of the award is chosen by over 100,000 readers of Work Truck magazine who also happen to be operators of medium-duty trucks. They were asked to consider application effectiveness, durability, quality, servicing, maintenance and lifecycle costs. There were eleven trucks nominated, and the Chassis Cab models were chosen as this year’s winner, the second time in the last five years in which they were the top trucks in their segment.

All RAM trucks are worthy of praise, but the 1500 doesn’t always have to be the star of the show. This time around, the 4500 and 5500 models were given their moment in the spotlight.
