Have you already decided that you want to have a 2019 Jeep® Cherokee or a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee in your driveway? If so, we applaud your excellent taste in SUVs! Now that you know what you want, it’s time to start the leasing process.
It’s difficult for a lot of motorists to choose between leasing and buying, especially if they’re not familiar with how leasing works. With this in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to share some fundamentals about leasing so you can make an informed decision.
Leasing and buying a car are very different transactions. Leasing is similar to renting a car while purchasing a vehicle leads to you owning an automobile. When you lease, you’ll return your vehicle to the dealership when your contract expires whereas you get to keep your car for however long you want it when you purchase.
While you’ll make monthly payments when you lease an automobile, your payments will often be smaller than they would be if you purchased the same vehicle. Similarly, lessees generally don’t have to put as much down as people who buy comparable cars do. These things make leasing a good idea if you don’t have a lot of money saved for a down payment, you don’t have a car to trade-in, and you want your monthly payments to be as low as possible.
Leases have certain rules you have to follow. If you don’t, you’ll be required to pay a penalty when your lease is up. You can only drive your leased vehicle up to a certain number of miles per year and you’ll have to maintain your leased car in good condition, for example.
