Usually, when an automaker goes forward with some sort of awesomely outrageous concept vehicle, they do so around the timetables of the industry’s larger auto shows, like the ones in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Detroit, but this year Jeep® saved some of its most interesting new automobiles for a different kind of event: the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah.
For those unfamiliar with the event, it has been running for five decades as a celebration of all the delightful off-road things that Jeep models can do. Many fans of the brand, including some here in Vicksburg, consider this to be one of the most treasured traditions of the year, and with seven new really exciting concepts for 2016, including all sorts of new Jeep Wrangler models (one of which will feature the same 707-hp engine that showed up in the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger Hellcat models that made so much noise in the news last year).
But, perhaps our favorite concept here at Vicksburg Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM was the Comanche, a take on the new Renegade crossover that replaces the roof with a cloth drop-top and the back end with a five-foot pickup truck bed.
The thing looks both rugged and really fun to drive, which we’re guessing was kind of the point. On those Moab trails it’s sure to do some massive damage and turn more than its fair share of heads.
Unfortunately, this isn’t a model that consumers will be able to purchase from their friendly neighborhood Jeep dealership any time soon, as it’s just a concept model for the Easter Jeep Safari. Still, that can’t stop us from dreaming a little and enjoying all the slick new concepts Jeep has planned for this year’s event.
